Fragmented Femininity

Pink, a color historically associated with femininity, softness, and gendered expectations, becomes both a visual anchor and a conceptual tool. By saturating the compositions with pink tones, Peyton simultaneously embraces and critiques the stereotypes attached to the color, using it to question how femininity is coded, aestheticized, and performed.

Throughout the series, Peyton incorporates cut-up photographs of their own body, images that were originally made in vulnerable moments. These personal fragments are layered alongside images of other female figures, creating a contrast between personal exposure and the more generalized or mediated representations of women. By physically cutting and reassembling these photographs, the work complicates ideas of control, agency, and authorship over the body’s image.

Through this process of fragmentation and reconstruction, the body becomes partially obscured, multiplied, or reassembled. The collages create spaces where femininity is not fixed but actively reshaped. Peyton’s work ultimately examines how images of women are constructed and consumed while reclaiming those images through physical intervention, vulnerability, and self-representation.
