In this black-and-white photographic series, Peyton documents a rural landscape encountered while visiting their brother’s girlfriend’s small hometown. Shot on film and printed on traditional photographic paper, the work reflects a slower, more observational approach to image-making, allowing the environment to unfold through quiet moments and subtle details.
The photographs focus on the textures and atmospheres of the rural area aka empty spaces, modest structures, and everyday surroundings that often go unnoticed. Rather than presenting the town as a romanticized landscape, the images pay attention to the stillness and simplicity that shape the character of the place.
Working with film introduces a level of patience and intentionality that parallels the pace of the environment being photographed. The process of shooting, developing, and printing the images reinforces the tactile nature of photography and emphasizes the physical qualities of the photographic print.
Through this series, Peyton reflects on the experience of observing a place from the perspective of an outsider.
